King Dushyanta is out hunting in a nearby forest when he meets Shakuntala, and instantly falls in love with her. He gives Shakuntala his ring as a symbol of his affection and commitment to marry. But upon his return to the kingdom, the King has an attack of amnesia. Written by Kālidāsa, India's most well known poet, The Recognition of Shakuntala is an epic of love, courageous faith, memory, and hope in spite of despair. Directed by Pratima Agrawal and featuring Anita Holland as Dushyanta, THE RECOGNITION OF SHAKUNTALA is a collaboration between Philadelphia Asian Performing Artists' and the Philadelphia Artists' Collective.
