The Annual First Person Arts Festival is a vital part of Philadelphia’s cultural landscape.

It is the only festival of-its-kind in the world dedicated to presenting art based on real life stories by well-known and emerging artists working across disciplines. Festival programming connects audiences of all backgrounds around the commonality and wonderful nuances within the human experience. We have presented authors, poets, activists, actors, comedians/satirists, stand-up storytellers, theatre artists, monologists, musicians, and podcasters to Philadelphia audiences for 18 years.

Megan Twohey, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times Reporter and co-author of She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement; Jim DeRogatis, author of Soulless - The Case Against R. Kelly, Larissa Marten activist, playwright, and performer of I Killed the Cow, and Annette John-Hall, host of WHYY's "The Why". Also featured are Emily Woods and Colleen Kennedy - two brave survivors from Philadelphia who remind us that the power of a woman's voice lies in using it.

Socrates Now - First Person Arts Festival - Nov. 5 - 7PM

SOCRATES NOW is a 90-minute solo performance-discourse. Take a seat in the court of ancient Athens as Socrates goes on trial for his life. Hear the philosopher face his accusers with his trademark wit, cutting logic, and the courage of his ideals. Consider his arguments on virtue, justice, politics, corruption, civic duty, love of life and hope in death, and draw your own judgment. Enjoy the post-performance opportunity to discuss with the actor the ramifications of your verdict.  Think. Question. Change.



I Killed the Cow - First Person Arts Festival - Nov. 10 - 7 PM

I Killed the Cow is a one-woman show by Larissa Marten, that uses metaphor to talk about sexual assault. It inspires discourse and reflection, furthering understanding in the realm of sexual assault by combating misinformation and stigma.
