6:00 P.M. February 21, 2022

Join us February 21 for an evening of food, drink and Broadway Musical Cabaret at Temple Performing Arts Center, celebrating the life of Temple Alumna Joy Valderrama Abbott (EDU '52) and featuring the music of George Abbott's Broadway.

Known as "Mr. Broadway", George Abbott is credited with establishing the book musical as an art form! He had a hand in producing, directing and writing over 100 Broadway shows making his contributions some of the most important in American musical theatre history, including for classics like THE PAJAMA GAME, PAL JOEY, DAMN YANKEES, FIORELLO and so many more.

Joy was a glamorous and loving companion to George, a wonderful performer, with a signature style and grace matched only by her generosity and spirit. Her contributions to Temple have led to establishment of the George and Joy Abbott Center for Musical Theater and the creation of a unique MFA in Musical Theater Collaboration.

Joy passed away in February of 2020.  We miss her and are thrilled to honor her!
