Lighting Supervisor

The Philadelphia Theatre Company is seeking a Lighting Supervisor. This opening is for an hourly, seasonal position and is represented by the collective bargaining agreement between IATSE Local #8 and the Philadelphia Theatre Company. 

Philadelphia Theatre Company requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID by the start of employment.


Compensation is a minimum of $25.32 hourly with benefits based upon the current IATSE rate for this position in effect during the period of this agreement. To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume by email to


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the operation and maintenance of PTC’s theatrical lighting equipment and any equipment or infrastructure deemed to be under the control of PTC’s lighting department, either show related or as part of PTC’s purview. 
  • Determine all crew persons needed to assist in the implementation of the above reference duties. (Numbers of crew and hours allocated shall be based upon budget and in collaboration with Production Management).
  • Prepare the shop order for additional equipment necessary to execute the design in consultation with Production Management.
  • Prepare perishables orders for season and individual productions.        
  • Supervise the hang and focus of the lighting plots while working cooperatively with all other production departments to ensure full functionality on schedule and on budget.
  • Plan and execute the installation and wiring of show related “practicals” and ancillary lighting/power needs.
  • Preparation and updating of all required lighting/electrics related paperwork.
  • Program and operate a lighting console for all performances.
  • Prepare and facilitate the return of any equipment either rented or borrowed for the production
  • Plan long range and short-range improvements of facilities, equipment and personnel for the Lighting department in coordination with Production Management
  • Work  in conjunction with the other department heads (carpentry, video, sound) and under the supervision of the Production Manager
  • Assist in determining the daily schedule and usage of the stage
  • Ensure calls are properly and safely staffed as dictated by the needs of the production


Desired Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years experience as a theatrical electrician 
  • At least two (2) years as a department head with a live performing arts organization or equivalent real-world experience
  • Exceptional organizational, leadership and communication skills 
  • Vectorworks, Lightwright, EOS Software experience
  • Moving light, LED and atmospheric effects programming
  • Previous experience working with and leading union crews is strongly preferred
