Khepera takes the audience on a magical journey as the ancestors empower four very different women—the Daughters of Africa—to uncover their authentic selves and take their rightful place in the world. These women have forgotten the story and beauty from which they were born; they have forgotten their purpose. On the way to greatness, each woman encounters the psychological tests, emotional workouts, and spiritual development necessary to be de-programmed of the brainwashing incurred by the societies in which they live.

What Barrymore Voters Are Saying

Very creative, beautiful set.

“Khepera” is a searing portrayal of traumatized African American women who have forgotten their lineage, identity and purpose. Ardencie Hall-Karambe’s mere presence is affecting; she anchors the cast with an incandescent performance. And Courtney Lynee scintillates with standout work that induces both laughter and pause. Utilizing music, light, media and movement, this production will resonate with viewers regardless of gender or race.

This production was difficult but important. I truly felt honored to be able to bear witness to the stories that were being told. Each performance seemed to come from such a deep place if vulnerability and honesty that I felt like I knew these women.

This production is prime example of proper representation within the arts of North Philadelphia.
