Communitas: 5 Years Later

Communitas is a Latin noun that describes an unstructured society where humans are equal. Five years ago company founders Ben Grinberg and Nick Gillette began with this as a foundation for performance. Now, five years later… company members Adam Kerbel, Ben Grinberg, Lauren Johns and Nicole Burgio seek to re-experience, in stark simplicity, the creation of a communitas. This work will focus on balance and human structures with only four performers and a live musician. Communitas becomes a deep exploration of who these four performers are, and how the four operate together with the intent to read human themes and relations from the physicality. From its original residency at New York live arts to presentations in Colgate University, along the east coast and in Mexico, Communitas has captured audiences of all ages with its openness in thought and imagination.
