Upper Darby Summer Stage, one of the nation’s most successful youth theater programs, and celebrating its 44th season, seeks an experienced TECHNICAL DIRECTOR to plan, budget, draft and supervise construction of scenery for six children’s theater productions and a mainstage musical.  Broad knowledge of construction techniques, materials, rigging, welding, and tools required. Organization, problem-solving skills, communication skills, rough and finish carpentry, automation, and rigging experience required. The Technical Director will work with the Technical Director of Mainstage, Shop Supervisors, Production Manager, and Director of Production to set scheduling and planning of load-ins, builds, strikes, purchasing, etc. Must draft using Vectorworks or AutoCad. Must be able to handle large budgets and use Excel Spreadsheets. Will also supervise a professional staff of 20, 10 interns and apprentices, and 25 student technicians. Time management skills are essential to being successful in this role. Also essential is a desire to teach motivated teens. Eleven week season, June 3 through August 20. First three weeks of contract are for preparation and drafting, build and load-in of unit set and show one. Availability for design meetings in April and May required.
