Spring Show Director

University of Pennsylvania -Glee Club
Post Date: Oct 25, 2017

The Penn Glee Club is seeking a Stage Director for its annual musical in late-February 2018. The show format is a two-hour, two-act musical revue, with an original script, performed by 40 (male) singers and a 12-piece rhythm/horns band.

The University of Pennsylvania Glee Club is one of the oldest collegiate singing groups in the country, with over 150 years of performing tradition – but whose artistic style and repertoire ranges from the very old to the very new. The PGC has presented a professional-caliber musical revue in the Zellerbach Theatre annually, ever since the opening of the Annenberg Center in 1971.

The ideal Stage Director candidate is energetic, enthusiastic, visionary, organized, patient and flexible; is able to stage dialog scenes and choreograph musical numbers for a large ensemble; has a proven track record of success in directing college-aged, non-professional singer/actors; and lives in the Delaware Valley. The Stage Director will work in close collaboration with the Director of the Penn Glee Club, the student playwright, the student and professional technical and production staff and several other student leaders. Conducting, teaching music, vocal coaching, working with the band, etc. are not part of this position. Compensation for qualified candidates will be highly competitive.

Casting of all roles should occur in early-December; rehearsals to begin in early January. Tech week and performances will be in mid-to-late-February. Further details of the original script and the weekly rehearsal schedule will be provided to interested parties.
