GEORGE STREET PLAYHOUSE, New Brunswick, New Jersey seeks 2M/2F actors, all ethnicities encouraged, for its Non-Equity regional Philadelphia-based Touring Company. Contract from January 6, 2020 – March 21, 2020, with possible 1 week extension. Pays $500 per week.


Work is demanding and requires great dedication - must have interest and passion for working with children. The company performs one musical which will travel to Philadelphia schools and community organizations. Actors must play teen to early twenties, varying roles. BA or BFA in Theatre Arts / Acting accepted. Must be an excellent singer and a Philadelphia local hire. 


Rehearsals: Full-time, 6 days per week, January 6, 2020 to January 25, 2020.

Performances: Up to 6 days per week, varying times. Performances will begin the week of January 27, 2020.

Austin the Unstoppable

The score is contemporary pop musical theater along the lines of Footloose, Wicked, Altar Boyz, and, Little Shop.


Reigning master of X-box and junk food junkie, eleven year-old Austin suddenly faces the long-term consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle when he learns his mother has been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. This musical comedy explores the challenges of a family learning how to make healthy choices together.  


Austin- M. 12 year old boy who loves playing video games (bari-tenor, sings from C up to G)

Deena- F. 30’s Austin’s caring mother (mezzo, sings from low F up to C#. Warm mix-belt)

Kayla- F. 9 Austin’s over-achieving younger sister (juvenile soprano, sings from low A up to D. Bright mix-belt)

Dylan- M. 12 Austin’s best friend (tenor, sings from C up to B-flat. Plays many characters, must beatbox.)


Job Description:

  • Perform in Philadelphia area schools and community-based organizations.   

  • Conduct post-play discussions after each performance.

  • Responsible for daily operation of touring productions: driving tour van, loading and unloading van, proper storage of all sets, costumes and props, and set-up and strike for all rehearsals and performances.

  • Must be able to lift 40lbs for 100 ft.


Terms of contract: January 6, 2020 to March 21, 2020 with a possible 1 week extension.

Rehearsals: Full-time, 6 days per week rehearsal/ Up to 6 days per week performing. 



George Street Playhouse is proud to commission and produce dynamic educational touring theatre for young audiences. Our touring productions address themes such as respect, bullying, conflict resolution, health and wellness, environmental education and empathy.
