Casting Notice -New Light Theatre, a Delaware based nonprofit theatre with a charitable mission, presents Kinky Boots, by Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper, in support of the United Way Pride Council, September 25 – October 13 2024, in partnership with Delaware Theatre Company in Wilmington, DE, directed by Lena Mucchetti, Assistant Directed by Charlie Barney, with music direction by Tom Mucchetti and choreography by Taylor J Mitchell. All roles paid, adult stipends starting at $2,000.

From Grammy® Award–winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper and four-time Tony Award® winner Harvey Fierstein comes Kinky Boots. This uplifting, exhilarating musical celebrates the power of true acceptance with a joy that will "raise you up!" Kinky Boots features a sensational score, knockout dancing, and a story with a huge heart. Winner of six Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, this show is filled with glitter, glam, and a whole lot of sole!

New Light Theatre is committed to bringing light to the darkness of the world by using each production to raise awareness and support for organizations that deepen our empathy and connection with one another. In accordance with this mission, and in partnership with Delaware Theatre Company, Kinky Boots partners with the United Way Pride Council, an organization working to make Delaware a safer space for LGBTQ+ individuals to live, work and play. Rehearsals for Kinky Boots will take place 3 weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons in Wilmington, DE, starting in August, with tech week beginning 9/14, and performances September 25-October 13. To be considered, please submit headshot, resume and a video of 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show to Artistic Director, Lena Mucchetti at [email protected], no later than April 18th. In person callbacks, by invitation only, will follow.

Casting the following roles, seeking submissions from artists of all ages, gender, sexual, and racial identities.

Lola/Simon – BIPOC, 20s-40s, both a prize fighter and a drag queen diva with killer vocals, an excellent sense of humor and an enormous heart, must be comfortable in drag and dancing in heels Sings C3–B4 (with one top C)

Charlie Price – 20s-30s, a bit privileged and unfocused, inherits his father’s shoe factory, Sings C3–B4

Lauren – 20s-30s, quirky, funny, and smart with bad luck in love, works in the shoe factory with Charlie, Sings B♭3–F♯5

Nicola – 20s-30s, Charlie’s long time girlfriend, motivated, driven, sophisticated, social climber, Sings B♭3–F♯5

Don – 20s-40s, burly, blue collar, hyper masculine factory worker, Sings C3–F4, and strong falsetto

George – 30s-70s, factory manager, reserved and orderly. Sings C3–F4

Angels – 20s-40s, fellow drag queens, perform with Lola at the nightclub, excellent dancers, comfortable in drag and dancing in heels, some angels sing to C♯5 and some sing to A4.

Trish – 30s-50s, hard working factory employee, Sings B♭3–D5

Pat – 20s-30s, office manager at the shoe factory, efficient, but has a wild side, Sings B♭3–F♯5

Harry – 20s-30s, a contemporary of Charlie’s, but his opposite – successful, confident, carefree. Ability to play guitar a plus, Sings E3–C4

Mr Price – 40s-70s, Charlie’s father in the opening and closing, a factory worker and pub patron for the rest of the show, Sings B♭2–G4

Lola/Simon’s Father – BIPOC, 40s-60s, Lola’s father and other roles

Factory Workers – the ensemble

Young Charlie – 8-12 years old, Charlie as a seven year old boy. Quiet, reflective. Sings G4 – D5 (stipend $1,000)

Young Lola/Simon – BIPOC, 8-12 years old, Lola as a 10 year old boy who already knows he’s destined to wear high heels. Sings G3 – D5. Must be comfortable walking in heels. (stipend $1,000)
