Auditions for Cabaret

The Resident Theatre Company (RTC) a professional company in West Chester, PA, is casting for their fall production of Cabaret.

 

Directed by Kristin McLaughlin Mitchell, and choreographed by Dann Dunn.

 

Auditions will be on Tuesday, June 4th in Philly 11 – 5pm.

 

Equity and Non-Equity contracts available.

 

Rehearsals start on September 3rd 2019 (mostly daytime rehearsals), show opens on Friday, October 4th and closes Oct 20thth. Performances Thursday – Sunday (5 shows per week)   

 

 

Available Roles:

 

Emcee – 25 – 50 male - vocal range: middle C to high C#, tenor; the host/master of ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub--presented as a gender-questionable character comfortable with being close to both men and women; comedic, lovable; requires dance; age range and appearance flexible, speaks with a German accent.  

 

Sally Bowles – 20 – 39 – female - vocal range: low A to high C, soprano and strong belt; a British cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Klub, a quirky character who comes across as flighty, yet at times struggles with knowing the darkness of the reality of her life as a cabaret performer; dancer; speaks with a British accent.

 

Cliff Bradshaw – 25 – 39 – male - vocal range: low A to high E, tenor; an American novelist and English teacher traveling to Berlin; presented as a closeted gay man exploring his sexuality; comfortable with stage movement and light dance; speaks with an American accent.

 

Fraulein Schneider – 50+ - female - vocal range: low D to Ab above middle C, alto; a landlady who rents rooms in her large flat; Strong on the outside, but has a softer side; comfortable with stage movement and light dance (waltz); speaks with a German accent.

 

 

Herr Schultz – 50+ - Male - vocal range: low G to high F, tenor; one of Fraulein Schneider’s roomers and the proprietor of a fruit shop; Charming and lovable; comfortable with stage movement and light dance (waltz); speaks with a German accent.

 

Fraulein Kost – 25 – 49 Female - vocal range: low A flat to high F, alto/mezzo; another of Fraulein Schneider’s roomers, she earns money by offering favors to sailors, presentation of the character should exhibit a strong sexual comfort and commanding nature; Strong Dancer – will also play a Kit Kat Girl; speaks with a German accent. Non-Equity role

 

Ernst Ludwig – 20 – 59 – Male - vocal range flexible; a friendly and likable German, takes English lessons from Cliff, and smuggles funds for the Nazi party; comfortable with stage movement and light dance (waltz); age range is flexible, speaks with a German accent. Sings in the chorus.

 

Kit Kat Klub Girls – 20 – 35 – Female - Kit Kat Club performers and various featured roles; seeking strong singers in all voice parts; the individuals will also be part of various scenes as performers and as club patrons; seeking a variety of body types; features (“Two Ladies,” “Telephone Dance,” etc.) will be drawn from this group; excellent dance skills required.

 

Male Ensemble - Play Kit Kat Klub waiters and patrons and various features; seeking strong singers in all voice parts; should be comfortable with portraying free in gender depictions; features (Bobby, Victor, “Tomorrow Belongs to Me,” etc.) will be drawn from this group; excellent dance skills required.

Kristin McLaughlin Mitchell (Director) is the Founding Artistic Director of The Resident Theatre Company in West Chester, PA. Recently she assistant directed the Broadway Revival of Lend Me a Tenor, directed by Stanley Tucci, receiving critical acclaim for the “curtain call” of Tenor which she staged and directed, (3 Tony nominations including Best Revival of a Play), directed The Incredibly Deaf Musical at The Duke Theatre in NYC as part of NYMTF, Ave. Q at The Geva Theatre (winner Best of Rochester 2012), Spamalot and Next to Normal (winner 10 Best shows of Cape Cod 2013) at The Cape Rep Theatre, Lydia (world première, NYC), and Spamalot (4 Barrymore Award nominations), Next to Normal, Christmas Carol, Bullets Over Broadway, Evita, and Lend Me A Tenor for RTC.
